Allegra Kuhn • Textile Artist

My philosophy is clear when making – create beauty and gain pleasure from it. The varied nature of textiles has always amazed me: woven, non-woven, felted, synthetic or natural, to the soft, and touchable textiles we all know and have in our homes.

In my current series, I have chosen to reach back in time, be inspired by decorative tile designs, while utilizing the traditional hand-hooked method. This particular textile technique allows me to play, and enjoy the inherent properties of wool and other accessible fibers.

Work can be seen this month at The Hutchinson Center in Belfast, ME in the “Hanging By a Thread” Exhibition and also at Maine Fiber Arts, as part of a two person showing with painter+weaver Peter Walls, in Topsham, ME starting September 12 with a meet the Artist event October 5, 2019.
